Three Monkeys

Three monkeys walk into a motel on the Planet of the Apes and ask for a room. The desk clerk says a room costs 30 bananas, so each monkey pays 10 bananas towards the cost.

Later, the clerk realizes he made a mistake, that the room should have been 25 bananas. He calls the bellboy over and asks him to refund the other 5 bananas to the 3 monkeys. The bellboy, not wanting to make a mess dividing the 5 bananas three ways, decides to lie about the price, refunding each monkey 1 banana, keeping the other 2 bananas for himself. Ultimately each monkey paid 9 bananas towards the room and the bellboy got 2 bananas, for a total of 29 bananas. But the original charge was 30 bananas.

Where did the extra 1 banana go?

To answer the question, there is no extra banana. To answer this question, we looked not at the money, but who possessed it. So we first saw each monkey had ten bananas, but then gave them to the clerk. We wrote out three zeros to represent the monkeys. Now that the clerk had 30 bananas, he gave 5 to the bellboy. We wrote the clerks balance now as 25. Then the bellboy kept two bananas to himself giving the monkey’s one banana each. Thus we wrote 2 bananas to representing the bellboy, and changed the zeros to ones, representing the new balance of the monkeys. Looking at the numbers, if you add them up the total balance is thirty, not twenty nine.

We don’t think there is an extra banana because, with the original charge of 30 bananas minus the number of how many bananas the three monkeys and bellboy had together (which is five) you will still be turned back to the REAL price of 25 bananas. With that being said that means that the equation would be 30-25=5 and the 5 is the 3 bananas for the 3 monkeys and other 2 bananas for the bellboy added together.

There was no other banana. The reason we know this is because when you take away the five bananas, all you have to do is make up those five. Meaning, you just add the three bananas given to the monkeys as a refund to the two that were kept by the bellboy. That gets the five bananas.
To figure this problem out you work you have to take what information is given to you at the end. Multiply the nine bananas each monkey paid by three monkeys. Then add that to the two that the bellboy kept. Or, if you want to make it easier, subtract the three refunded bananas from the original 30, that gets 27. Then add back the two that the bellboy kept to get 29.

Where did the extra 1 banana go?

Monkeys Refund
Paid 10 each. 10+10+10=30 Got 1 back. Bellboy got 2.
9+9+9=27 Room costs 25. 25+2=27+ the 3 they got back…….

There is no missing banana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After we read the information, we decided that there cannot be another banana. When you add 3 to 25, (3 being their refund), and then add the 2 which the bellboy got, you get 30, the original total. Using that data, you are able to see that there is no extra banana.

So at first we were confused about it all and we thought that they were tricking us. So we added all of it up. First it was 25 dollars, the monkeys got three back, 28 bucks, then the 2 dollars to the bellboy… 30 dollars!

New Cost: 27
Room Cost: 25
Bell boy: 2
Refund is three so 27 plus 3 is 30. There is no missing banana. The cost is 27 and the room cost is 25. The bell boy took 2 so that adds up to 30.

There might have not been an extra banana. They paid 25 bananas and they got three back. That adds up to 28 and then the two that the bellboy got makes 30. The whole time the total was 30 bananas. There is no extra.

There was no extra banana. The original cost was 27 bananas. At the end 29 bananas were spent all together, but the monkeys only paid 27 bananas. The difference between 29 and 27 is 2.Then the original price was 25 bananas, but the difference between that and 27 is 2. So you add the two and two together to get four. So if you add 25 and 4 you get 29 which was the all around cost.

There are no bananas missing. The addition was done wrong. The monkeys each paid nine for a total of 27, then got a total of 3 back. The total bananas still adds up to the total payment of 30.

We couldn’t find the answer but we thought they just never paid the 30 bananas. we couldnt figure out what the answer was because the 30 was stuck in our minds.

We don’t understand the problem. We know that the monkeys paid 27 bananas in total, the bellboy has 2, and the bellboy gave each of the monkeys 1, but we cant just do 27 + 2 + 1 because it was because of the 1 banana they each got that they paid 27 bananas instead of 30.

There is no missing banana. I figured this because the monkeys paid 27 dollars all together. The room cost 25 dollars and the bell boy got two bananas. 25+2=27.

There is no missing banana. The monkeys paid a total of 27 bananas and the bell boy kept 2 bananas. Technically the room cost 25 bananas so they had enough to pay for the room.

We got that there was no missing banana. This is because 25 (the total amount paid) plus five (the refund) equals 30.Even though the monkeys all together only got three, the bellboy got 2, which still equals 5. 30 bananas was the original amount.
